Iraqi haroset is as simple as it gets. It consists of only date syrup and nuts.

Date syrup is a staple of Iraqi cuisine, and is known as date honey, or silan, among Iraqi Jews in Israel. It is available at Middle Eastern and kosher supermarkets.

This haroset is thinner than most others, and very simple to make.

Iraqi haroset is as simple as it gets. It consists of only date syrup and nuts.

Date syrup is a staple of Iraqi cuisine and is known as date honey, or silan, among Iraqi Jews in Israel. It is available at Middle Eastern and kosher supermarkets.

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup date syrup (silan, see note above)

  • ½ cup finely chopped walnuts (or a combination of walnut and peanut,) preferably toasted

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  • Combine the date syrup, nuts and cardamom in a small bowl. Keep covered at room temperature.
