#Meatballs in dried apricot and tomato sauce has a sweet and sour flavor that’s loved by Iraqis. I got the recipe from my grandmother’s cousin, Victoria Levy z”l, almost thirty years ago.
Happy to share such a wonderful dish, now in a #kosherforPassover version

Kronans kaka, a Swedish almond and potato cake, is a traditional #cake from the 1800s. Potatoes replaced flour in this cake, because flour was hard to find at the time and was used sparingly.

I’ve found this recipe in the fun Swedish Fika cookbook, by Anna Brones and Johanna Kindvall. It seemed perfect for #Passover (it’s also #glutenfree !), so I was curious to try and see what it would taste like, and it’s delicious! Not too sweet, very delicate. So here we go.

Maakouda is a #Moroccan potato dish, served either as pie or as fritters. For Moroccan Jews maakouda became a traditional #Passover weekday dish. Just like the Ashkenazi potato #kugel , maakouda is a simple pie of potatoes and eggs, both were staples of Passover for many #Jewish communities around the Diaspora.

Koylitsh (or koilitch, or koylitch) is the #yiddish name of a long #challah , can be twice as long of a regular one, that’s rich with eggs.
It is prepared for #purim , sometimes decorated with candies as in this recipe, and for weddings too, where it is presented to the married couple. I know that first hand, because my beloved grandmother, Rachel Shraga z”l, made a beautiful one for me and my husband.
(So yes, that’s Natan with my grandmother on our wedding day)

For those who, like me, cannot have enough #poppyseed , this is the #cake for you. It includes almost half a pound of poppy seed and a rich #chocolate ganache on top.
The origin of this rich poppy seed cake is in Hungary. There are many different types of poppy seed cakes, roulades, babkas and hamantaschen in Israel too, especially around the holiday of Purim. (some of those you can find on my website.)
